Day 1

So I've been in Oxford, England, since about 1:30 or 2:30 yesterday (England time. We're 5 hours ahead so it was 8:30 or 9:30 Eastern.) We flew for about 8 hours (during which I managed to get not even 1 second of sleep) into London around 11, and then had to sit in the plane for about another hour because the plane before us at hour gate malfunctioned and had to be towed away. Apparently the breezeway was also broken, so we got to exit the plane on exterior stairs straight to the ground, old-school style.

After baggage check, a day old suitcase now already broken, and an hour bus drive, we arrived in Oxford. We're staying/studying at Trinity College here. Their university system in the UK is pretty different from ours, but basically the different colleges that make up the university each have their own miniature campus separate from all the others, while Oxford University itself does not have a campus, but instead has a large number of various buildings spread out through the city. Trinity College is pretty amazing though.

Anyway, I went and checked out my room and unpacked, and it's pretty nice. No roommate either, which I think is the best part.

After that we had a small orientation to remind us of some of the basic rules (such as the magic grass) and then a barbeque with everyone staying at Trinity--including U Mass and Georgetown which are also here--with hotdogs and hamburgers, with a strange but delicious sort of whipped cream flavored ice cream for dessert.

We (meaning I and the four or so people I met on the plane and bus ride from London) then went and walked around the city of Oxford a little, but didn't do much because we were all so exhausted from the plane ride. I ended up hitting the sack around 10:30 I was so tired, and that catches you up from Day 1.

The UGA House at Oxford. Terry College of Business students are staying here, while the rest of us, Franklin and Grady College students (me) are staying at Trinity College.

The UGA House is really nice, but although it isn't quite as old as Trinity College and is about a 20 minute walk from downtown.
